So some times you really want Yum Cha for lunch.
You do the normal prep work like not eating breakfast. Thinking of all the
dishes you will have. Taste those sweet pork buns in your mind and experience
the smells.
So I have this favorite Yum Cha that's local to me in sunnybank. It burnt down
about 2 years ago, so for sure it would of been rebuilt by now. ( OK so we've
been busy and yes you don't get out to eat on a Sunday with a small child in
hand)
Expecting to be greeted but the most awe inspiring Phoenix recovery (This place
was opulent before so it GOTTA be better now) there in front of us ... The once
opulent glass doors of the restaurant have become the entrance to some kind of
kookie Asian photo booth shop.
AHHHHgggggggghhh
I was a little perplexed by this.
First how the hell do you make money in a suburban shopping center when your
only commodity being a memento of yourself and a possible friend holding your
fingers in a peace sign with a greenscreen background. (And we're not talking
one booth here when I looked in there was a freaking forest of booths discreetly
hidden by little curtains)
And
Second in the game of rock paper scissors how does "Photo Booth Shop"
beat "1000 seat YumCha Restaurant" I just fail to see the economics
that my shrine I used for so many Sunday's to recover from son type of liver
abuse could no longer sustain itself after a "little fire"
So faced with the prospect of going hungry we hi tailed back to the car to make
it over to the "other" inferior YumCha squeezed into the local
Shopping Mall. It was my memory this one should be avoided at any cost, (even
if it was the last place on earth to eat) Judging by the line that snaked out
of the restaurant and down into the mall my memory served me correct.
We had a small moment of madness where we did think about the 1hr wait however
"Little M" helped refocus our clouded minds by yelling "FOOD
NOW!"
So we then swiftly moved back to the car and returned to market square.
Just on the corner was the a Malaysian restaurant and this "might"
just be the answer to my prayers. Quickly I readjusted my minds eye menu list
to include Lamb Rotti COULD IT BE TRUE !!!!!!!!!
(I've missed Lamb Rotti since my favorite lunch time restaurant Singapore Lai
had closed)
We walked to the doors were guided (Told to go) to the worst table in the restaurant
(As always the tradition in any good asian food establishment). I was waiting
with anticipation to be TOLD what were going to eat. Instead we got the equally
satisfying "WHAT YOU WANT !!!!!!" yelled at us in the time is money
kind of way. PERFECT this could not be any better. I love the service when its
like this, I feel like I am on holidays. The next perfect moment happened when
there in front of me Number #5 on menu was Lamb Rotti .......... OMG it was a
sign from the gods ..... could it be as good?
YES ....... (well no .. but as it is the ONLY lamb rotti I can find It's the
Best)

show. We explained it was a very special movie, so naturally she requested to take popcorn along. I thought it might be a bit overwhelming for her, but as always, she took it in her stride and was thoroughly involved. Loved it. There is another kids show on during the school holidays in a few weeks time, so we'll take her back for another go!
We then sat by the garden lake and enjoyed a quick picnic lunch (Miss M tried ginger beer for the first time - her verdict? "Deee-licious!"). She and Mr N walked over to the jetty to feed the ducks and turtles, which is always great fun
